A Guide To Star Tattoo Designs

In this guide I like to tell you something about the mythology of stars and why they are one of the most popular choices for tattoos. The star design is often used as a central theme in a tattoo design. For example, the star has often replaced the cross in remembrance for someone who has passed on. And in Australia, many people proudly wear the tattoo of the Southern Cross on their bodies.

If star tattoo design is your choice then you have chosen wisely as this design looks fantastic as a single star on the shoulder or arm for example, or when combined with other tattoo designs.

Star tattoos look great on the feet, ankles, wrist, and just about anywhere else, and they go really well with other designs such as, butterflies, fairies, tribal or dragons, love tattoos or the moon, to name just a few.

A couple of examples I have seen that looked fantastic was our own Milky Way in a full arm design complete with Jupiter and Mars, and a few aliens thrown in, the detail and colour was extraordinary, and how good would that look as a full sleeve tattoo design? Pretty damn good, I'd say!
Another example was that of the 3 wise men following the guiding star. If you can imagine a full back design of this scene, then you can imagine how good it looked. Now let me tell you of some of the mythology surrounding stars.Stars have fascinated people throughout the ages, especially before television, computer games, and pollution dulled the view above us. Even though the Sun and Moon by and large take the leading roles in mythology, often appearing as god or goddess, stars have also played their part.

If you have ever seen Bear Grylls on television he often refers to the stars as our road to survival. In ancient times many stories came about to explain their radiant existence.

One myth describes the stars as children of the sun and moon, but the sun had an insatiable appetite, and because the sun was forever hungry, his children would make a hasty retreat at sunrise. The moon, on the other hand, while the sun slept, played happily with her children across the night sky.
